Curia

The first Curia of Their Royal Majesties, Maynard and Liadain, will be held the Sunday of War Practice (May 17, 2009) at 9:30am in A&S Tent #1.  The following are Their Majesties proposed changes to Kingdom Law.  We hope to have a complete agenda posted soon.

Proposed changes to Kingdom Law:

Article III: CROWN TOURNAMENT
REQUIREMENTS

Current:
III-600 Letters of intent must be sent to the Crown. They must include the following elements for both entrants:
SCA names
Legal names
Addresses
Telephone numbers
Proofs of membership
Proofs of age
Handwritten signatures.
To facilitate complete letters of intent, a form is available on the Kingdom website as well as from the Crown and the
Seneschal on request. Prospective entrants are encouraged but not required to use this form to ensure a complete letter.
Letters of intent must be postmarked or hand-delivered to the Crown no later than 30 days prior to the Crown Tournament.  Electronic or e-mailed letters are not acceptable. The Kingdom Seneschal shall verify eligibility as defined in the Bylaws andCorpora.

Proposed change:  addition of the word “legal” to “Handwritten legal signatures.”

Current:
III-1200 The Crown Tournament will be run in a double-elimination format. The Crown may modify the format of Crown
Tournament if there are 16 or fewer fighters in the Lists.

Proposed change:  The preferred method of Crown Tournament is a double elimination tournament.
Removal of “The Crown may modify the format of Crown Tournament if there are 16 or fewer fighters in the Lists.“

KINGDOM ORDERS AND HONORS

Current:
IX-1000 The Orders of Distinction in AEthelmearc are given at the pleasure of the Crown. None of these orders bears arms of any sort, nor are they polling orders. They are:

The Cornelian - which honors courtesy.
The Sigil of AEthelmearc - which honors service to the Crown.
The Silver Buccle - which honors service to the Kingdom done by subjects 17 years of age and under.
The Silver Alce – which honors accomplishments in the martial arts and sciences done by subjects 17 years of age and  under.
The Silver Sycamore – which honors accomplishments in the peaceful arts and sciences done by subjects 17 years of age and under.

Proposed addition of:  The Golden Thorn – which honors the protection and defense of the Crown.

We purposefully left the wording somewhat vague.  Our intention is not to simply utilize this to recognize Queen's Guard Members.  It is meant to recognize anyone who provides exemplary defense and protection of the Crown, ie. the person who dives in front of the King on the field of battle to take an arrow meant for his Majesty, or even in a non-martial setting such as defending the Crown from verbal assult in the marketplace or on a listserve.  It would not be an immediate recognition of those serving on the Guard either.  As with any award, it is recognition of "above and beyond".
